Remember how bad Dad looked? What makes you think you look any better? You don’t.

Novelty Stuff

Underwear with interesting attachments or designs, t- shirts that the guys laugh at but you won’t let your mom see. Give it up. She won’t like it. Unless she bought it, then only when the two of you are together. It’ll be your inside joke.

Backpacks

They’re out. Get a messenger bag – they’re in. And you don’t look like a boy-scout leader carrying one. Backpacks c’mon. That was so yesterday. Like a ski rack on your SUV. Take it off.

Super Loose Clothes

Even if you think you’re hip hop, don’t do it. These clothes might work if you want to ‘bust a cap’ into somebody, but you’ll also kill any trace of fashion.

Nasty Colors

Forget it. Hawaiian shirts are out. Forget it. No. I said no.

The Shoe In: Sculpture Afoot At McQueen

I heard that dreaded kitten heels appeared earlier today at Louis Vuitton. But last night at Alexander McQueen, it was still cobbling to the extreme: sculptural shoes with ten-inch heels. The more hooflike ones reminded me slightly of Balenciaga’s intense platform from several seasons ago. I had actually tried those on, and they were quite secure until I tripped on the fashion closet floor and nearly broke my ankle. At McQueen, these were almost literally works of art, some sculpted to look like the fossils of ancient yet alien sea creatures. Others had a cool, old-school robotic thing happening with pieces of metal screwed together. They’re amazing to look at, but would you buy them to wear or display in your living room?
