5 Sexiest Cocktails

Posted by oreo | Food & Drink, Food and Drinks, Luxury, Party | Monday 9 August 2010 5:34 am

There are three keys to making a sensuous cocktail: First, it should look bright, attractive, sleek, or curvy. Second, the ingredients must invoke some visceral sense—either with palate-tickling fruit or earthy accents from herbaceous spirits. And finally, the name has got to suggest passion, seemingly begging to be consumed. These five drinks fulfill the mission nicely.

Amaretto-Cranberry KissAmaretto-Cranberry Kiss

Vodka and cranberry have been a pair on numerous occasions (most notably in the Cosmo). In this drink, orange juice smoothes out the flavor of the tart cranberry. To avoid making an overly sweet Kool-Aid-like concoction, try using unsweetened cranberry juice or adding more OJ. The amaretto contributes sweet almond flavors (you may have seen the Disaronno Originale brand on liquor shelves) and adds yet more alcohol. Beware: This Kiss packs quite a punch.

Bitter CrushBitter Crush

Italian Aperol, an orangey aperitif that is the base of this drink, lends a provocative bite that can make the cocktail quite bitter (thus the name). You can toy with the flavor balance by adding more or less sugar and by adjusting the dilution: Serve it chilled for full force or on the rocks to mellow it out. Either way, the luscious red color beckons for a second and third sip. Ideal as an aperitif before a meal.

FeverFever

If bright-red drinks don’t communicate the seductive subtlety you were striving for, consider this variation on a martini. The Fever plays up some alluring, exotic flavors, combining a nutty spiciness with a sexy hint of anise. By adding Dubonnet Rouge, which contains red wine, the drink achieves a touch of pink. As a whole, it’s dry enough to pair with many foods, and simple enough to stir up at a moment’s notice.

The New Bee's KneesThe New Bee’s Knees

“Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee” goes the famous expression (a classic example of Muhammad Ali braggadocio). He could have been talking about this variation on a classic drink: The scent floats across the nose with enchanting floral aromas thanks to the addition of lavender. Lemon and honey create a deceptive sweetness; the gin kicks in soon enough.

Blood Orange French 75Blood Orange French 75

Champagne cocktails are, by their very nature, celebratory. The rising bubbles function not just as eye candy but as palate stimulants, and the alcohol in carbonated cocktails enters the bloodstream faster than in noncarbonized ones. This version of the classic French 75 adds complexity in the form of bitters, an element that goes well with the blood oranges that make up the drink’s pulp. Serve it before a romantic meal or the day after, with brunch.

How to Create Sexy and Mysterious Smoky Eyes

Posted by oreo | Beauty, Cosmetics, Party, Trends | Thursday 17 June 2010 6:27 am

Smoky eyes are known as seductive, sexy and mysterious eyes. You can beautiful-smoky-eyesget the perfect kind of smoky eyes if your layering is perfect; it should be blended and soft.

Though it is easy to get smoky eyes, you have to work on the details and have patience to achieve the correct effect of the colors. Usually a heavy dark charcoal color results in smoky eyes, but there are also hues of blue or purple to make your eyes look sexy.

Given below are some tips to create such a sultry pair of eyes.

With a pencil, you can line top and bottom rims, going closer to lash line. If you have small eyes, the liner should be applied from middle portion under your eyes to the outside of your eyes. For larger ones, you can freely use the liner from one side to the other. If you are using a liner which is liquid type, place dots over the lash-line and try to follow them to get a correct straight-line.

You can apply a light shade with a large eye-shadow brush so that the whole area is encircled. Thereafter you can apply mascara. With a fluffy sponge, brush away the shadow which might have landed on the lashes or beneath your eyes.

Now line the lips with color that is natural to get a smoky look and if you add some color like caramel or peach along with a natural blush, the seductress is ready.

Tips

Two or three mascara coats will give you a dramatic appearance. When you pull the eye liner from top while lining the bottom lashes, your eyes will look larger. For fair colored women, soft colors in grey and brown would suit. When you color blue shades or greens, you can get a modern look.

Do not apply smoky eye makeup in the morning. It is best for night parties. If you did not sleep properly, a smoky look can worsen your eyes. To get a bold look, lips should be lined with dark liners and filled with colors that are deep.

Liquor Types

liquor-types1

Everybody has an interest in attaining his or her own potential in one way or another. Different types of liquor and spirits of a more earthly, or shall we say earthy kind may or may not help with that effort. All the same, one thing that is beyond dispute and that is the certainty that they will make the journey much more pleasurable.

BrandyBRANDY – Brandy is a spirit distilled from mashed fruit, often grapes.  Known as “fire wine” it has been popular for hundreds of years.  Brandy is aged in oak casks from which it derives its rich color.  Normally 80 proof, brandy is a traditional after dinner drink and is used frequently in cooking.

Fine Brandy can cost a pretty penny.  Cognac, one of the most popular forms of brandy gets its name from a region in France of the same name.  Cognac is double distilled using pot stills, also used in the production of Whiskey.

Brandy is normally imbibed at room temperature or very slightly warmed.  It is served in a snifter.  Brandy is graded based on its age.

X.O.  Extra Old, Napoleon or Vieille Reserve.  X.O. is aged at least six years and Napoleon at least four.  This is some of the best brandy you can purchase.

V.S.O.P  Very Special Old Pale or 5-Star brandy is aged at least five years in wood.

V.S.  Very Special or 3-Star brandy is aged at least three years in wood.

A.C.  Brandy aged two years in wood.

GinGIN – Gin is a very dry spirit made from grain and flavored with juniper berries.  The classic gin and tonic is a drink you’ll come across daily when working as a bartender.  Gin is also the base ingredient for the ever popular martini.

Gin is usually sold with a proof around 80 and is clear in color, although some varieties can have a yellowish color due to being aged in barrels.  Gin is often very reasonably priced and is known as the “drinker’s drink.”

rumRUM – Rum, the favorite drink of Blackbeard himself!  Both pirates and navy men used to drink grog, a potent mixture of rum, lime juice, and sugar water.  The worst hangover I ever experienced was thanks to a bottle of rum.  Merely writing about rum brings to my stomach a twinge of nausea.

Produced prominently in the Caribbean, rum is distilled from sugar and aged in oak barrels.  Light rums are the most popular and are used in cocktails such as daiquiris.  Dark rums are distilled through a slower process which allows them to develop a stronger, bolder character.  Dark rum is normally sipped neat (straight up).

TequilaTEQUILA - Tequila is made from the agave plant in Mexico and is normally around 80 proof.  Being the main ingredient in Margaritas, Tequila is one of the most popular liquors in the world.  As a bartender you’ll soon become very familiar with the many types of tequila available.

Anejo is a form of tequila that is aged and sipped neat.  Cheaper tequilas are fine for mixed drinks, but Anejo is preferred for shots as the aging takes some of the bite out of the liquor.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no worm at the bottom of a real tequila bottle.  Worms are only found in some bottles of mescal, which started as a marketing ploy.

VodkaVODKA – Vodka is a clear, tasteless and odorless liquor distilled from anything from grain, to potatoes, to molasses.  Vodka is traditionally drunk neat in Europe, while in the US mixers are usually added to create various cocktails.  Originally produced in Poland, Vodka is the most popular liquor in Russia.

Vodka is famous for its lack of flavor.  It’s neutral flavor allows it to be successfully mixed with a wide variety of mixers and typically does not leave a detectable smell of liquor upon one’s breath.  Vodka is must be at least 80 proof but not over 110 proof.

whiskyWHISKEY – Whiskey is distilled from grain mash and aged in oak barrels.  First distilled by monks in Ireland in 1405, nowadays whiskey has the image of belonging to the cowboys of the wild west.  There are many different types of whiskey.  I’ll briefly review the most popular types.

Scotch whiskey is from Scotland and is normally distilled at least twice.  It is aged in oak barrels for at least three years and is usually a blend of both malt and grain whiskies.  Single malt whiskies are the most sought after of the Scotch whiskies.

Irish whiskey is distilled at least three times and is always aged in wooden barrels for at least three years, often much longer.  Irish whiskey is distilled in single malt, single grain, and blended varieties.

American whiskey is comprised of three main categories.  Bourbon whiskey which is at least 51% corn, Rye whiskey which must be at least 51% rye, and corn whiskey which must be at least 80% corn.  American whiskey is aged in oak barrels which can be as brief as six months for corn whiskey.

Jack Daniels, one of America’s most famous whiskies is distilled similar to bourbon, but is filtered through sugar maple charcoal which gives it the brilliant flavors and aromas that it’s known for.

Little black dress

kakaIn the evening, little black dress or cocktail dress, cut simply and often with a short skirt, originally made popular in 1920 by designer Coco Chanel. Chanel designed to be a long, flexible, affordable, accessible to the widest possible market and a neutral color. Its continued ubiquity is such that many call an acronym LBD.

“The little black dress” is considered essential for a full wardrobe of many women and fashion observers, who are considered “normal” that every woman should own dress, simple and elegant black can be dressed up or down as appropriate: for example, be a jacket and pumps for wear during the business day or a more ornate jewelry and accessories for the evening. Because it’s supposed to be a key element in the closet for several years, the style of the little black dress ideally should be as simple as possible: a short black dress that is too clearly part of a trend would not qualify because he will soon be uploaded.
