Modeling for artists sounds like a glamorous job in which one sits about doing nothing and is immortalized in a beautiful painting. However, modeling nude for an artist or art class is much more complicated than it may seem. In addition to the obvious requirements of being able hold still and being willing to appear undressed in front of others, there are many other requirements for successfully fulfilling the role. Let’s see!

Steps:

1. Find places to work: Contact your local art school or college to see if they are hiring art models. You can start with the art department, but ask if there is someone in particular assigned to hire models for all classes. Sometimes each instructor hires their own models. This is the first step because it may in fact be difficult to find work in a tight economy. Interestingly, male models are in especially short supply.

2. If required by the institution, prepare a resume. Include any previous modeling experience, performances, art schooling, dance, yoga, or other activity you have done which would benefit an artist model.

3. Ask the person hiring if there are any rules or guidelines that models must follow. Discuss payment or hourly sitting rates, which can vary greatly but generally are between $15 and $25. Also discuss average length of poses, how many breaks, and does the artist or group use one pose or many different, varied poses.

4. Plan for the session by thinking about poses:

- Length – Poses generally fall into three categories: gestures which are less than three minutes, short poses which are three to 20 minutes, and long poses which are done for as long as necessary in 20 minute intervals with a short break in between. The latter is generally the norm for painting and sculpture; drawing classes will require a number of shorter poses. Any class may begin with a few gestures as a “warm-up”.

- Be Expressive – draw on any personal experience to think of poses that are interesting or inspiring. Any physical activity may be a source of good poses. Many models draw on the poses done in classical works of art, but these should only supply ideas, not be copied.

5. Put together a “modeling bag” including the following:

- a warm robe (or cool, depending on the season)

- a towel or other cloth to sit on

- optional jockstrap or thong(for men)

- slippers/sandals (art rooms have floors covered with charcoal, and perhaps a lost push-pin or tack)

- a date book and pen for booking future sessions

- a timer – it’s hard to look at a watch for many/most poses

- drinking water

- a lunch, or snacks if required

6.Before you leave for your session, shower and apply lotion so that you won’t offend the artist with your body odor and will have nice smooth skin. Lotion also soothes dry skin which could otherwise cause you to scratch an itch while posing. Wear minimal jewelry unless otherwise requested.

7. Upon arrival, you will be expected to change (remove all of your clothing) and put on your robe and slippers. A private change room will likely be provided or there may be a folding screen behind which you can change.

8.Step up onto the model’s area and place your wrist watch where you will be able to view it or set your timer after consulting with the artist how long the session will last. Remove your slippers and place them neatly to one side.

9. Remove your robe. If you do not have a towel, it is hygienic and highly recommended that you place your robe beneath your bottom for sitting poses. Some artists even enjoy drawing the additional “drapery”.

10. Follow the artist’s direction. Keep your body and eyes very still. It is useful to fix your gaze on one spot; do NOT make eye contact with any artist. Relax into the pose, but not so much that you move from your original position. You may be asked to time your own poses or the artist may tell you when you’re finished.

11. When you are finished with your session, get dressed. Between sessions, put on your robe to keep your body warm. Don’t walk around naked.

12. Have your date book and pen handy when you come out of the change room in case the artist would like to work with you again. It’s also a good idea to have business cards to hand out to artists if you are doing modeling as your main job.

If you are getting a bikini wax for the first time, you may be a little nervous. Getting the answers to common bikini wax questions can relieve your anxiety and help you know what to expect.

What Is a Bikini Wax?
A bikini wax is the process of using hot or cold wax to remove the hair from your bikini area, which is everywhere that is covered by your swimsuit bottom or panties. That includes the hair on both your front side and your backside, leaving you with smooth, hairless skin underneath your panties.

There are three types of bikini waxes: hot, warm or cold wax. Hot wax tends to be the preferred method, especially if you have your bikini wax done in a salon. The heat from the hot wax helps open the hair follicle and soften the surrounding skin, so the hair lets loose and is easier to remove. Cold waxing is preferred by women who are particularly sensitive, and it can be a good idea if you are doing a bikini wax at home. Warm wax is a happy medium; it works better than cold wax, but isn’t as hot as a hot wax. Cold wax techniques sometimes bypass the use of a cloth strip. Instead, you peel up a corner of the wax and just pull.

There is another option known as “sugaring” that doesn’t use a wax, but a sticky sugary substance that has honey, molasses, sugar and other organic ingredients. It makes for an easy cleanup and the results are equal to waxing.

When you use the hot wax method, the wax (usually paraffin or beeswax) is heated and then applied to the area where you want to remove the hair. Next, a piece of cloth, often muslin, is applied on top of the wax and firmly pressed down. This allows the wax to spread evenly across the area and surround each hair. After the wax has cooled, the cloth strip is removed in a quick, smooth yank, and the hair comes off with the wax.

Home or Salon?
You can purchase at-home wax removal kits and do your own bikini wax. Remember to follow the directions to the letter. It is also a good idea to consider a cold wax for an at-home bikini wax to avoid burns.

However, it is usually recommended that you get your first wax at a salon. A technician can also ask you questions about your skin type and can figure out the most effective procedure for you.

The cost of a bikini wax will vary, but expect it to run between $25 and $100. Yes, this is a huge price variation, but it really depends on where you live and what type of salon you visit. If you choose to buy an at-home kit, you will probably spend about $15 to $25 for a one-use kit and upwards of $75 for a professional wax pot with everything you need for several waxes.

One huge advantage that waxing has over shaving or hair removal creams is that waxing will keep you hair-free for four to six weeks, rather than just a few days. Shaving and creams simply remove hair at the surface, but waxing removes the entire hair, including the root.

How to Prepare For Your First Bikini Wax
Yes, a bikini wax is going to hurt, there’s really no getting around that. Most women say the pain is just temporary and the results are well worth it. You can have the best possible experience with the following tips:

- Exfoliate your bikini area the night before your wax. This will remove any dead skin cells and allow the wax to stick the best.

- Don’t get a bikini wax three or four days before or after your period. You are the most sensitive during these times, so the pain may be increased.

- Take an over-the-counter painkiller like ibuprofen or acetaminophen about 20 minutes before your appointment to head off some of the pain.

- Relax! The more nervous you are, the more you will tense up, and this is not going to make things any easier. Just breathe deeply and relax. Take a deep breath in when the wax is applied, and then breathe out when the strip is pulled.

- Your hair needs to be about 1/4″ long so the wax can grab it. If you have been shaving or using a hair removal cream, you will need to let the hair grow a bit before you get your bikini wax.

- Don’t wear tight jeans or panties. After your bikini wax, you don’t want to wear anything too constricting, as your bikini area is going to be sensitive. Avoiding tight clothing for a day or so can help you avoid ingrown hairs as well.

- Be sure to shower before your bikini wax, but not immediately before. You want to be clean, but, if you are still damp, the wax won’t be as effective.

- If you begin your bikini wax and truly decide that you can’t go through with it, just speak up. It’s your body, and, if you change your mind, that’s OK. Keep in mind that your first bikini wax will be the most uncomfortable. After that, the hair grows back in finer and thinner, and future waxing is easier.

Changing some lifestyle habits [...]

When in spite of doing regular exercise, spending lot of time on the treadmill, you are not able to achieve a slimmer waist, and you can’t just let that flab leave your waist, then you have to understand that problem lies somewhere else and exercise is not the only solution for it.

Changing some lifestyle habits which are restricting your weight loss efforts can help you to achieve your goal. There is no doubt that eating right food and doing regular exercise is the best ways to achieve a good figure, but when this essential method is not working properly then consider changing these habits.

Late Night Sleeping Habit

Modern lifestyle has changed a lot. Most city dwellers have the habit of sleeping late at night, because of the late night parties, late nigh TV shows and the like. If you too have the habit of sleeping late at night, you have to skip that habit to get a slimmer waist. Lack of sleep creates imbalance in your hormone and slows down body’s ability to burn fat.

Your body needs minimum eight hours of sleep everyday, especially when you are exercising regularly to lose weight. Lack of sleep reduces the insulin production by the liver and fails to cut down the fat deposits from our body.

Habit of Skipping Meals

Many women when don’t find expected result, start skipping meals out of frustration. They apply this method as a last option to get a slimmer waist. But health expert today suggest just the opposite of it.

They suggest to divide your meals in six short meals in roughly equal size. Make a calorie chart and find out your daily calorie requirements. Divide them in five or six equal portion. Eat healthy nutritious meal every time, without skipping any of them. it will help to increase your metabolism and make possible to achieve slimmer waist.

Less intake of water

Many women do not drink enough water throughout the day. This is a great obstacle for achieving a slimmer waist. Those who want to get a slimmer waist must drink about a liter of water the moment they get up from bed. This will help to increase the metabolic rate and burn calories.

Secondly the water intake in empty stomach will help to expel toxin from the body and in turn help to reduce fat. Also make a habit of drinking at least seven to eight glass of water throughout the day to detoxify your body and lose the flab accumulating around your waist.

If you think that people who exercise with free weights turn into musclemen and musclewomen, you are absolutely wrong!!! There is more to having big biceps and triceps.

Training with weights helps a lot in shedding off pounds since it increases the metabolism, which is necessary for burning calories and excess fats. By doing this kind of workout, you are able to build more muscle mass, which is essential in burning more calories, even while the body is resting.

There are many ways to exercise with weights. You can use dumbbells, free weights, barbells or simply use a rod or staff. For those who lack these tools, they can make use of their own body weight. Some ways to do this is by means of squats, sit-ups or push-ups. These exercises can be done in the comfort of your home.

Combined with weight training, eating the right foods can help in reducing weight. Here are some of them:

Grapefruit

Grapefruit is considered as one of the “negative calorie foods”. Although it has calories, it takes more caloric energy to digest it than what it actually contains. It is one of the foods that have an advantage of burning fat. It is also rich in fibre so it helps in digesting the foods we eat. It also helps to lower the levels of insulin in our body that stores excess fats.

Green Tea

One of the more popular antioxidants, Green Tea helps us in burning more calories because of the presence of Catechin that increases the activities of the brain and nervous system.

Peppers

If you enjoy having peppers such as Jalapenos and Cayenne in your taco dip, wait till you know their benefits. They, naturally, contain Capsacin which speeds up your heart rate and metabolism that helps burn calories and excess fats. Since these are hot, those who want to take them can opt for supplements that come in the form of capsules.

Coffee

There are recent findings on coffee as being beneficial to the body because it contains antioxidants. It also keeps us mentally alert. That is why people drink it to stay awake and attentive. There is a warning, though. Drinking too much of this may cause heart palpitation and nervousness.

Now, you know that strength training with the use of weights and eating calorie burning foods are essential in increasing your metabolism. Not only this, it helps you achieve a well-toned physique.

Does it work? So many new trends in diet and exercise and the world keeps getting fatter. TV shows are made of it and so many new experts with so many new theories. How do you keep track? Find the one that works for you, of course. After all, statistics don’t mean anything if they don’t work for you personally. Let’s look at this thing called Bursting. It’s been around for a few years, but is really getting some more attention lately for the results some are getting. First of all, what is it?

The key difference between bursting and other forms of exercise – especially traditional methods including long periods of low intensity, such as walking – is that this is done in ‘bursts’. It teaches your body to become a better fat burner. Burst training is short, but intense periods of an exercise for 30 to 60 seconds. It’s a matter of giving it your all in just a few moments until you feel like you’re going to burst. Your legs are on fire or your lungs are burning. You feel like you can’t go on another second. It’s exhilarating.

Here are some technical facts behind it as shared by J.J. Virgin, a bursting instructor and absolute fitness expert. “When you burst instead of just going at a steady pace, you create lactic acid which in turn triggers the rise of Human Growth Hormone (HGH). This is good stuff! In fact, movie stars pay big money to have HGH injected into them. It helps you hold onto or build more muscle mass, burn off fat weight and keeps your skin supple and younger looking. Your body will also take more time to recover from bursting than traditional aerobic exercise which means a bigger boost to your metabolism post exercise.”

She recommends that you incorporate at least 4 minutes of total burst training every other day. “Burst for 30-60 seconds with an active rest break between sets. Your bursts should be a 9-10 in terms of intensity on a scale of 1 to 10. You truly need to feel like you can’t go another second during your burst. If you can go more than a minute then go harder. The goal isn’t to exceed that one-minute mark, but to incorporate more intensity as you get better. In fact, you will be amazed at how quickly you get better.”

The specifics will be different for everyone, but the main thing is to totally exhaust yourself in just a minute or so. Do the exercise until you feel like you can’t go on another moment.

Here’s a routine she recommends:

Ideally, do a three minute warm-up. Then Burst for 1 minute, recover for 2 minutes and repeat 4 or more times and then Finish with a three-minute cool-down. She points out that the entire session should take just a little bit over half an hour.

Pick your own favorite way to burst. Sprint/walk, Stationary cycle, Stairs, Jump rope, stationary stepping machine – the important thing is bursting and then relaxing, then bursting some more. Why not try it and see if it works for you?

Here are some excellent tips that will help you to get that perfect hourglass figure. These tips work excellently to kick the fat out from your waist that most people don’t like to have on their body.

They are easy, simple at the same time very effective; all you need to do is to do them correctly. This in turn will do wonders for you in reducing the fat content that you have near your waist.

You need not do impractical and difficult things in order to reduce the waist fat that you have.

A workout of jumping jacks and Hula-hoops

Go grab a heavy Hula-hoop for yourself. This is because the lighter one falls to the ground very so often and rotates slower.

Once you have it in place, hula-hoop for 60 seconds and do jumping jacks for another sixty seconds immediately. Do four such sets. An interim rest of 45 seconds after each set is mandatory.

This requires about 15 minutes for you to complete the work out. Do them every day for best results. You will not be able to achieve the desired result if you don’t do them regularly and this will have an adverse impact on you.

Abs squeezes & vacuum pose

These are the two best possible exercises for the stomach muscles. This latter exercise involves sucking of your stomach as much as possible. Hold for around 3-5 seconds. Perform abs squeeze for another 3-5 seconds. These are isometric tension exercises.

Keep alternating both for about 5 minutes straight. Performing these exercises daily is recommended strongly if you are serious about losing inches. Doing the exercise regularly will fetch you better results than doing it intense sessions occasionally.

These really are very effective, tried and tested exercises that we have selected. You may fumble in the beginning but maintain your confidence, you are sure to come out with flying colors, and an hourglass figure.

They work if you really allot some time and do the exercises with determination.

If you’ve ever seen the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, then you will know just how gorgeous and confident the models are. Wanna be like them?

1. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise! At least 60 minutes a day. Some exercises that a few VS models have mentioned are kick boxing, jump rope and jogging. All are very good and burn a lot of calories. Also, try yoga.another remedy, is chair lifts, they get rid of arm fat!

2. Learn to apply makeup well. Get clear skin with a good routine. Apply little to no skin makeup (foundation, bronzer, concealer, etc) Unless you need it, such as you have bags under your eyes, uneven skintone, etc. If youre in a position where you cant wear moderate to heavy makeup such as eyeliner, apply a light shimmery white/cream eyeshadow or highliter in the corners of your eyes for a bright-eyed look, and use the same eyeshadow/highliter on the bow above your lips to make them look more shaped and full. Then apply a light pink shimmery gloss.

3. Eat healthy. Eating healthy will make you feel great, and also make you look great. Try to stay away from greasy foods like French fries, etc. Also try to stay away from sweets and sugar. Stick to fruits, vegetables, complex carbs, and drink a lot of water! But make sure to treat yourself to a small salty or chocolatey treat every once in a while, It’s better than going overboard all at once.

4. Learn how to curl your hair. Unless it’s naturally wavy. You will see that the models have their hair wavy/curly and down.look on youtube for great help. And it’s fairly long. Make sure to get your hair trimmed every once in a while to keep from ugly uneven ends. For accesories in the hair, keep it minimal, maybe to a black or gold headband. But if you have a job that requires hair to be clipped back, wear your hair in a messy bun or high ponytail.

5. Wear clothes that make you look and feel beautiful. Don’t be afraid of pretty lingerie! But for everyday, try to wear clothes from Victoria’s Secret. Wear things like dark fitted jeans, low heels or cute flats, and cute t-shirts or pastel/white button downs untucked with the sleeves rolled up and the first couple of buttons unbuttoned. Wear simple accesories like a charm bracelet, small dangly earrings or simple studs, or a pendant or locket. Wearing your favorite bra and panties makes you feel really good.

6. Be confident. You are beautiful, so work it!

Do you dream of briskly walking down the runway wearing the latest fashions while traveling the world and getting paid for it? You may feel like a human coat hanger, but walking the runway is a great opportunity for future gigs, so, although sometimes the pay is very low and the venue not so glamorous, it can be a springboard to other jobs like magazines and other print media. Not everyone can be a runway model, but you might have a chance if you fit some or all of the following qualifications.

Are you able to look straight ahead and focus without losing your balance and getting blinded by bright lights all around? This happens constantly on the runway, so be ready for it. If you can do this, it is a good start.

Also, oftentimes, when posing for a photographer shooting from above, one can raise one’s head slightly or throw your head back to reveal your beautiful hair. Not so, on the runway. You have to keep your chin down a bit in fact because everyone will be lower than you – including the photographers that can give you great breaks.

Also, you should be able to walk without moving your shoulders and arms too much. It is recommended that you keep your shoulders as erect but natural and still while only the lower arms move naturally without too much of a swing. In addition to paying attention to your lower arms, keep your fingers extended a bit so they appear in the photos.

As you’ve probably heard before, place one foot in front of the other. This isn’t right for the men, only the ladies. It gives your hips a nice rhythm and a gentle sway to the body. Although you may have seen some models slouching or hunching their shoulders while walking down the runway, this is not the way to do it. Hold yourself erect and walk with confidence.

As for physical requirements, the minimum height recommended is 5′9″ with a very slender build. Look at the models on TV doing runway work. Is this your basic body type? This is for sure required; not only for the aesthetics required for the runway venue style, but most clothes will fit you with little alteration. If the clothes require major alterations just for you, don’t expect to be called back for runway work.

Of course you will need a nice complexion and appearance to look good on the runway and last but not least: attitude. Recently, one of America’s top models was called back after losing because of her spirit. She didn’t give up. She refused to accept a failure as meaning anything more than ‘try, try again’. If you meet the basic requirements, it is this ability to take rejection, to keep going to auditions and to keep on trying that will give you success in future endeavor. Self confidence, hard work and persistence have brought more success than all the perfect bodies combined. But it doesn’t help to have a super look as well. Go for it!

Let’s take a quick look at the top models in the world. Ladies first.

It’s a pretty much foregone conclusion that Gisele Bundchen is the world’s top female model. She made 25 million dollars last year and is going strong today. She was born in 1980 in Horizontina, Brazil. She’s 5′10″ tall and measures 34-24-34. She has brown and blue eyes. She was discovered at age 14 while eating a Big Mac on a school trip. She made $5 million in 1999 and $8 million in 2000. She earns over $50,000-a-time walking up and down the runway. Here is some trivia: she is nicknamed “The Body”. She lives in Los Angeles with Leonardo DiCaprio but also has a loft in Manhattan. She also has a country house in Woodstock, NY. She and Leo have been together for years, but she will not marry him until he stops partying and going to strip clubs. On the other hand, she is rumored to have breast implants.

The top for the men is considered by many to be Tyson Beckford. He is the child of a Jamaican father and Chinese-American mother. He grew up in Jamaica and Rochester, New York. He is 6′2″, with black hair and brown eyes. He was born in December, 1971 in New York. He was scouted by an editor from a hip-hop magazine named ‘The Source’ in 1991. Soon after that, Ralph Lauren nabbed him for the company’s sport, fragrance and body lines. By 1995, he was on the covers of major magazines, including Paper and Essence and multiple-page spreads in Vogue, GQ, the New York Times and Details.

It is interesting to note that the male models make between 200 and 500 thousand dollars per year compared to 10-25 million for the ladies. We don’t hear anyone complaining, though. Here are some honorable mentions for those that aren’t considered by most to be at the top, but are near the top.

Jaime King She uses her nickname, James. She’s an American. She’s 5′9″ and measures: 35.5-24-34.5. She weighs 120 lbs. Her hair is Blonde and her eyes, Blue. She was born on April 23, 1979, and grew up in Nebraska. She went to modeling school at age twelve and dropped out of school to model at the age of fourteen. At that point, she was turned on to heroin on her first modeling job. Her current agency is New York-Company. She has appeared on major magazine covers and even got some parts in some movies as an actress. Here’s some trivia: She has tattoos of fairies on her back. She calls New York City’s East Village her home.

For the men, Marcus Schenkenberg from Sweden is 6′2″, with Brown hair and eyes. He was discovered in 1989 while rollerblading on California’s Venice Beach. He had been earning money as a dogwalker and a nanny for two young children. He agreed to have his picture taken and within months he was on his way to Paris. His agency is Boss Models if you want to hire him, but you’ll have to get in line. He has worked for Gianni Versace, Donna Karan, Ungaro and Calvin Klein. Some say he was the first well-known male supermodel. He has a home in New York City.

That a wrap for now. There are so many other fantastic and popular models to mention, so stay tuned, we’ll be visiting more in the future.

Jaslene Gonzalez was born on May 28th, 1986 in Puerto Rico, but grew up in the Chicago area. She went to an all-girl high school. Before she did modeling, she was an online college admissions advisor. This is a person that helps you decide which college to attend; from the available programs offered to the requirements that determine if you qualify. This can be complex and challenging which proves there’s brains amidst her beauty. Jaslene also had experience modeling for a local Chicago agency named AGM, or Avante Garde Models. She also had some experience in fashion shows with local designers. You can be sure that she can demand more for her assignments now that she’s gained international notoriety.

In a lesson about giving up or keeping on, Jaslene actually lost in cycle 7 and came back to win in cycle 8 of the Top Model competition in 2007. When she lost cycle 7, she may have concluded she wasn’t meant to be a model. But her perseverance and persistence paid off when she came back and won. In conjunction with her talent, the producers were impressed with her determination. This was significant to her win and a lesson for us all.

What does it mean to Jaslene’s life and career since she won America’s Next Top model? Being represented by Elite Model Management – quite a step up from AGM as you can see from the web site alone. She also was awarded a contract with Cover Girl cosmetics for $100,000. Surely that pays better than her college consulting days. She appeared on the cover of Seventeen Magazine with a 6 page spread inside. Today, several TV talk show appearances later, she can also be seen in numerous Cover Girl commercials. Since then, more representation in Miami, Malaysia and Thailand. She has appeared in a few music videos as well as a few movies in the last few years as well. Right now, she can be seen working in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

What about the future for Jaslene? Although being accused of being anorexic (she isn’t and needs to maintain a slender look for her profession) she was seen recently at the Operation Smile gala in New York, and she looks fabulous. Our guess is that the future is up to Jaslene. With the success early in her young life brought by persistence and perseverance, the future can hold for her anything she desires. We wish her the best of success!
