Good Reasons to Drink Green Tea

CUT YOUR CANCER RISK

CUT YOUR CANCER RISK

A population-based case control study of breast cancer among Chinese, Japanese and Filipino women in Los Angeles has suggested an inverse relationship between green tea consumption and breast cancer development.

There is evidence that suggests that green tea drinkers have a lower risk of dying from bowel disease.

Scientists have been aware since the 1970’s that green tea can help fight cell damage and changes, as evident in countries with low rates of this disease. In 2004, a study showed that EGCG can actually kill leukemia cells, and in a new study, published in The Journal of Clinical Oncology researchers from the Mayo Clinic found significant improvement in the symptoms of patients treated with EGCG extract.

SOOTHE YOUR SKIN

Got a cut, scrape, or bite, and a little leftover green tea? Soak a cotton pad in it. The tea is a natural antiseptic that relieves itching and swelling. Try it on inflamed breakouts and blemishes, sunburns, even puffy eyelids.

PROTECT YOUR SKIN

PROTECT YOUR SKIN

In the lab, green tea applied directly to the skin (or consumed) helps block sun-triggered skin cancer, which is why you’re seeing green tea in more and more sunscreens and moisturizers.

Skin ages depending upon time, and exposure to sun, leaving it rough, wrinkled and with imperfections. Experts write about the effects of creams that contain doses of green tea extract. The polyphenols in this extract are responsible from healing damaged, red, irritated skin. The antioxidants counteract the actions of free radicals; the end products of metabolism, associated with the aging process. The creams that are eco-friendly are those that contain no mineral oils, silicones, coloring agents or symthetic fragrances.

STEADY YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

Having healthy blood pressure – meaning below 120/80 – is one thing. Keeping it that way is quite another. But people who sip just half a cup a day are almost 50 percent less likely to wind up with hypertension than non-drinkers. Credit goes to the polyphenols again (especially one known as ECGC). They help keep blood vessels from contracting and raising blood pressure.

PROTECT YOUR MEMORY, OR YOUR MOM’S

Green tea may also keep the brain from turning fuzzy. Getting-up-there adults who drink at least two cups a day are half as likely to develop cognitive problems as those who drink less. Why? It appears that the tea’s big dose of antioxidants fights the free-radical damage to brain nerves seen in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

STAY YOUNG

The younger and healthier your arteries are, the younger and healthier you are. So fight plaque build-up in your blood vessels, which ups the risk of heart disease and stroke, adds years to your biological age (or Real Age), and saps your energy too.

The study followed more than 40,000 Japanese adults for a decade, and at the 7-year follow-up, those who had been drinking five or more cups of tea per day were 26 percent less likely to die of any cause compared with those who averaged less than a cup.

LOSE WEIGHT

Green tea provides high levels of polyphenols which are antioxidants with chemotherapeutic and anti-inflammatory effects. In other words, green tea speeds up your metabolism to burn more calories and slows down the ability of the body to store sugars and fat.

Lucky brand jeans -What’s New-

About Lucky

Rooted in rock ‘n ‘roll with a signature sense of humor, Lucky Brand stands for independent thinking, individual style and a feeling as authentic as love. Friends since youth, creators Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman shipped the first order of Lucky Brand in 1990, and have been renowned for their great-fitting, vintage-inspired jeans ever since.

Gene and Barry’s life long passions were blue jeans and rock ‘n’ roll. While experiencing the hippie-counterculture movement in the U.S. in the 1970s, the then-21-year-old Gene teamed up with 17-year-old Barry, and friend Bill Rudnick, to open a jeans shop in Florida called Four Way Street. It was 1972 and they were officially in the jeans business, “During the evenings, we’d head out to the local Laundromat with our pockets full of coins and some bleach. A few hours later, we had a stack of great washed jeans — one of a kind and 100% authentic!”

Gene moved to Los Angeles in 1978 “with $100 in his pocket” and entered the burgeoning Los Angeles fashion industry. He started Bongo Jeans with partner Michael Caruso and helped run the Bongo brand for 15 years, helping it grow into a multi-million dollar company. In 1990, Gene left Bongo to launch his dream, Lucky Brand, and asked Barry to become his business partner once again. The Goal? To create a denim company without compromise, about great quality and good humor.

Lucky Brand became instantly recognized for its attention to fit, but there was one more detail to follow. Gene wanted to put a message in the fly, and came up with the catch phrase “Lucky You.” The irreverent play on words and strategic placement of the “Lucky You” message bucked the 1990s politically correct climate, attracting some unfavorable advice, “Don’t do it. People won’t buy it, they’ll be offended!”

As promised, Gene refused to compromise and his good-humored “Lucky You” signature was a gamble that paid off. In next to no time, the phones were ringing with people demanding those jeans with the “Lucky You” in the fly.

Lucky Brand is built on moments like these, of irrefutable attitude and vision without compromise. Los Angeles and the free-spirited Southern California lifestyle continue to inspire the company’s style. The story of Lucky Brand is the story of two great friends moving to California and starting a jeans brand. The rest is history.

Lucky Hollywood

Over the years Lucky Brand has garnered a strong celebrity following. Fans include Ben Affleck, Halle Berry, Abigail Breslin, Brad Pitt, Salma Hayek, Sandra Bullock, Ellen DeGeneres, David Grohl, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Gwyneth Paltrow, LL Cool J, Matt Damon, Will Smith & John Travolta, just to name a few.

Lucky Brand works with the wardrobe departments of Hollywood movie studios and has been featured on numerous TV shows including Ugly Betty, How I Met Your Mother, Criminal Minds, The Unit, Scrubs, Medium, Ghost Whisperer, Without a Trace and CSI.

For the past ten years, Lucky Brand has sponsored the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, a prestigious event that honors the artists behind filmmaking, hosts premiere screenings and supports aspiring filmmakers.

Lucky Foundation

Created by Lucky Brand founders Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman, The Lucky Foundation is committed to bringing happiness, comfort and hope to disabled children. The Foundation believes that its donations can truly impact the quality of life and well-being of children and make a difference in their lives. Since its inception in 1996, the Foundation has been successful in raising approximately $6 million through its annual Black Tie & Blue Jeans Gala for numerous children’s charities including: Smile Train, Camp Sundown, Island Dolphin Care, Shane’s Inspiration and The Bridge School. The event consistently draws over 700 guests from the fashion and Hollywood industries including; Anthony Edwards, Sela Ward, Emily Procter, Alyson Hannigan, Laura San Giacomo and Neil Young. The Black Tie & Blue Jeans Gala has been hosted by such marquis names as Jay Leno, Dennis Miller, Dana Carvey, Howie Mandel, David Spade and Craig Ferguson. Musical guests have included B.B. King, Jackson Browne, Stephen Stills, Loggins & Messina, James Brown, Chris Isaak, Bonnie Raitt, The Fab Faux, and Chris Robinson.

Lucky Business

Lucky Brand designs and produces denim, sportswear, knits, wovens, outerwear, T-shirts and active wear. Additional Lucky Brand licensed products include swimwear and accessories for men and women. The Lucky Brand collections are carried at better department and specialty stores, and at over 110 company-owned stores nationwide and three internationally.

May 1999 marked another stage of the Lucky Brand development when Liz Claiborne, Inc. acquired 85% of the company. This strategic partnership positioned Lucky Brand for major growth, focusing on expanding its retail locations, e-commerce site (www.LuckyBrand.com) and increasing its foreign distribution. Lucky Brand will continue to license its brand in other major product categories.

Lucky Worldwide

Lucky Brand’s global presence has expanded with free standing stores in Canada, Asia and the Middle East.  Wholesale presence in Selfridges, London is just the beginning of European expansion.

Rose Colors Mean

Posted by admin | Beauty | Thursday 28 January 2010 2:45 am

Red Rose

red
This one is the most obvious. It means “I love you.” It represents romance and love.

Deep Pink

deep

This simply means “thank you”. If someone you know does something nice for you, a deep pink rose is a good way of saying “thank you”.

Regular Pink

base_media
A pink rose represents happiness. It’s great to give a pink rose to a partner to say, “I’m very happy with our relationship.”

Light Pink

lingpink
A light pink rose means “sympathy”. When someone has had a loss then light pink roses is a very nice way of expressing your condolences.

White Rose

whote
A white rose symbolizes innocence and purity. When combined with red roses (see further down), it represents “unity”.

Yellow Rose

yellow
A yellow rose symbolizes friendship and caring. It’s the perfect innocent gift to give to a friend or give to a loved one when you simply want to say “I care”. When given to a friend it also means “I’m happy with our friendship.”

Lavender Rose

valen_media
A lavender rose is a symbol of “falling in love”. When you give it to a person you are saying “I have fallen in love with you and am enchanted by you.”

Orange Rose

oreng
An orange rose is a symbol of desire. “I desire you” or “I desire to get to know you better” is the message that orange roses send.

Black Rose

black
Never ever give a woman a black rose, because Hollywood has, unfortunately, made out the meaning to be “death”. These aren’t easy to find and some maintain that they don’t actually “exist”.

Blue Rose

blue
A blue rose is very hard to reproduce or find, although some floral companies are trying to do it naturally. Others just dye them. To some a blue rose symbolizes “mystery” and to others “attaining the impossible”. A blue rose given can symbolize the rarity of your partner. You have attained the impossible.

Mixture of White and Red Roses

writered
When you deliver white and red roses together to someone, it is a symbol of unification and unity. “May we always be together as one.”

I Love Gritter!!

Posted by daony | Beauty, Cosmetics, Fashion | Thursday 19 November 2009 3:29 am

The holidays mean shares in the coming weeks; we dig into our clothes perfect game.

Fortunately, in December of British Vogue has given us a way to make the suits best without breaking the bank.

Glitter!

Who does not love a little brighter? Instead of a handful of light make-up artist Lisa Eldridge, said that the eye must be “bold, simple and beautiful, with the rest of the face kept naked and natural.” This large version of the glitter looks best in shades of gemstones such as emerald or cobalt, and a block of solid color on the eyes instead of shadow or liner. We have noticed a handful of tracks ES10, like Louis Vuitton, Betsey Johnson, and Derek Lam and works well with liquid liner, pencil black sequins or loose glitter pot shape.

We especially love this picture to shake out of the corner of my eye, because the kind of screams “special occasion”. So let us try – even if sometimes glitter brings bad memories of our days, the Cheerleading and 90’s pop stars – because it is perfect for your holiday, birthday or New Year’s bash.

Worst case, you will have a little glitter in his eyes, but we believe it is a small price to pay.

To get rid of bags or dark circles under the eyes, you can place cucumber or potato slices on the eyes. OR, you can take used tea bags(make sure they are cool!) and squeeze the tea out. Place the tea bags over your eyes for30 minutes. Do this everyday. You’ll see results in about a week. POTATO WORKS BEST Also mix a drop of eye cream with a yellow based concealer and apply below your eyes to hide dark circles creates light reflection and perks up appearance of tired eyes.

Do not neglect to your elbows

neglect your elbows
negligent

Hands and Neck used to be the tell tale signs of aging no matter how flawless the face but thankfully we have many products and procedures to tend to those areas now.  So that just leaves the… elbows!?!?  Who woulda thought they’d like to hear a sound like a tale of our age or not?  Sagging, aging elbows show rings (like a tree!) and must not be neglected!
I’m staring at Posh and I am actually frightened for her and her entire family.  She is literally disappearing before our eyes, raise your hand if you think Posh is too skinny.  Yup, I knew all of you would agree.  I’m even thinking the saggy elbows are due to emaciation, not age.  No matter, one must not neglect the elbows.  Here are a few tips to keep the skin there taut and supple:

1. Exfoliate ! See more of her elbow looks really dry? A good chemical exfoliant like glycolic acid would do the trick.  Unlike the face, the elbows are not sensitive and can stand higher percentage of acid.  (Try biting someone’s elbow, I swear they won’t feel a thing!)  If you lack the resources to buy glycolic acid– cut a lemon in half, rub on to elbows, leave the juice and rind on there for 5 minutes, rinse.  I don’t recommend physically scrubbing the elbows too hard as you’ll just pull at the skin.  The acids are best in this case.

2. Moisturize! Again, people forget to moisturize the elbows.  If yours are as dry as your heels, I’d turn to my trusty solution for extreme dry skin– AQUAPHOR!  Eye cream is good too if you can afford to buy box loads of La Mer eyecream to rub on your elbows like Kimora Lee Simmons does. Get Aquaphor $5.99 here

3. Sunscreen! Yes, the elbows suffer from sun damage everytime you drive, walk outside or play tennis.  We put sunscreen all over our face and body but most of us neglect to protect our elbows!

Have to do it. Capture your elbows follow the instructions above and see if you see the difference in months.

Do Less, Look Better

MCX0507BEMAKEUP033-medium-new 1. Shampoo just your scalp.
Save time in the shower by skipping the supersuds routine, says Louise O’Connor, owner of OC61 Salon in New York City. Just apply a dime-size amount of shampoo to your scalp, quickly massage, then rinse. The water will pull the shampoo through the rest of your hair and remove any grime.

2. Leave in a little conditioner.
If your hair is frizzy or dry, don’t bother rinsing out every last bit of your conditioner or mask. Leaving in a light coat will weigh down the cuticle, says O’Connor, so you can skip strand-smoothing styling products later.

3. Dry only your trouble spots.
Rather than taking 15 (or more) minutes to blow-dry your whole head, limit drying to just bangs, cowlicks and other spots that won’t lie right without a blast of hot air, says Roy Teeluck, owner of the eponymous New York City salon.

4. Skip the dryer; still get swing

To create volume, spritz a lightweight styler over damp hair, then slide your sunglasses on, headband style, before heading out the door, says Teeluck. As your hair dries, you’ll get lift in the front and on top.

5. Score sleek hair minus an iron.
Douse damp hair with conditioning spray, then slip on a tight-fitting knit hat. Leave on for at least 15 minutes while you do your makeup, get dressed or sleep. Remove to reveal amazingly frizz-free hair.

6. Lighten up on the layers.
Unlike heavily layered ‘dos, close-to-one-length hairstyles require fewer trips to the salon, says Kevin Lee, creative director of the Kenneth Salon in New York City. They also let you fret less about styling, since you won’t have to contend with any wayward layers.

7. Appear “done” with cute clips.
Keep a cute clip on hand for occasions when you have to look pulled together fast. Tease the top of your hair, then use the clip to secure the rest in a messy knot, says Susanna Romano, partner and stylist at Salon A-K-S in New York City.

Bikini Waxing Styles

Posted by pim | Beauty | Thursday 15 October 2009 6:29 am

FrenchBikiniWaxYou may not know there are many bikini waxing styles or types to choose room. Whether you want a little or a lot off, you can select the one that’s best for you.
Just keep in mind that every salon and spa has their own names or versions of how much, or what hair is to be removed for the price on their menu. And just because a facility offers bikini waxes, doesn’t automatically mean they will do all the styles for both women and men. This article is describing the styles as they would relate to women.

Basic Bikini Waxing Styles:
Regular Bikini Wax
:
Removes the hair outside the panty line. When to choose: If it’s your first bikini wax, or are just looking for a clean up.

Full Bikini Wax: Takes the sides of the bikini line deeper than a regular bikini wax, and can also include waxing some hair on top to make a more defined ‘triangle’ area, or trimming down the hair left shorter. When to choose: You still want to keep hair, but want more definition than a clean-up.

French Bikini Wax: Takes all hair off the in the front (except a small strip) and continues to right before the back. It doesn’t take hair off from the back like a Brazilian (see below). When to choose: You want the area basically pretty smooth with most hair removed, but don’t want to take any hair away from your behind.

Brazilian Bikini Wax: Takes all hair off the bikini line, front all the way to the back (yes by your bum). Sometimes a small strip or triangle is left in the front.
When to choose: The perfect option if you wear a thong bikini, or want to be completely or almost hairless in front and back.

Eye Makeup Tips

Eyes are the windows to the soul. They are also one of the first things we notice about each other, which helps explain the popularity of eye make-up. No other kind of make-up does so much to enhance – and change – our features as eye make-up. In eye make-up, the sequence is – eye shadow, eye-liner and then mascara. Many women searches for “how to apply correct makeup”, learn step by step applying makeup guide for FREE. Remember the following tips for eye make-up:

  • For night eye make-up, use black eye-liner, dark mascara and white eye-shadow
  • For bluish or brown eyes, use black eye-liner and light blue mascara for the day time; and for evening, blue eye-liner, blue mascara and blue eye-shadow should be used. Use a clean, damp mascara wand to separate clogged lashes, and a damp cotton bud cleans blobs from surrounding skin.
  • Eye Shadow Tips – Blend a dot of concealer on the centre of your lids to ease the color.
  • Make sure to remove eye make-up at night. It is cleaned with baby oil. Close your eyes, apply baby oil on a cotton wool swab and scrub slowly, gently, keeping eyes closed. First clean the upper part and ends, then the lower part of the eyes, keeping your eyes open.
  • Use lash curlers over mascara to “open up” the eyes.
  • Some women are seen to allergic to eye makeup. In this case the eyes redden, the skin around the eyes gets a burning sensation and the eyes usually remain watery. Beware of sub-standard eye makeup cosmetics. Always take care to wash your hands before applying eye makeup. Clean the brushes regularly to avoid infection.
  • Eyebrows – Brush a clean mascara wand through them to diffuse the pencil tone.
